About Us

Gray God Gunwerks was founded in 2022 by Sheldon Kapp. Sheldon is a State Trooper and an avid firearms enthusiast. In addition to being a State Trooper, Sheldon is an armorer for the State Police, a certified Smith & Wesson M&P 15 armorer, range officer, and a certified Glock armorer.

Gray God Gunwerks is based in Kentucky and specializes in building custom AR platform firearms, FFL transfers and firearms customization.

Sheldon decided to open Gray God Gunwerks after building multiple rifles for himself and discovering a passion for building custom firearms versus “off the shelf” firearms that can be bought at any gunstore.

Additionally, Sheldon prides himself on producing builds that are both purpose built and aesthetically pleasing rather than building the “Gucci guns” that seem to plague social media. Sheldon has attended the State Police training academy, worked as a State Trooper, and attended various trainings (in using multiple weapon platforms, maintaining multiple weapon platforms, and assembling/disassembling them).

The name “Gray God Gunwerks” stems from the local nickname State Troopers received as the “Gray Gods.” The nickname came from the gray uniforms that are worn by State Troopers. Consequently, the name stuck and served as the inspiration for the “Gray God Gunwerks” name.
